Jazz Port Townsend - Day 1

Centrum is an arts organization headquartered in Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, Washington. Centrum engages in a variety of arts programs. What brought Liis and I to the area in July, 2007, was the Jazz Port Townsend festival and workshops. Liis was enrolled in a week-long vocal workshop and I planned to take photographs and enjoy music.

Fort Worden was an active US Army base from 1902 to 1953. Film buffs may remember it as an important location for "An Officer and a Gentleman," featuring Lou Gossett, Richard Gere and Debra Winger. Fort Worden became a Washington State Park in 1973, and many of its buildings are beautifully maintained.

The first Sunday in the week-long program mostly involved registration, finding one's room and moving in. But there was one concert in the evening, featuring members of the workshop faculty. Among the participants were Roberta Gambarini, Jeff Clayton, Benny Green, Dee Daniels, Clarence Acox and many others.
