California 2007 - Day 12

Liis and I woke up to rainfall for the first time on any of our California vacations. It was challenging through the early afternoon, but the skies began clearing soon after the performances got underway.

During the afternoon arena show, we saw three blues-oriented bands: James Hunter, Otis Taylor and Los Lobos.

The evening arena performances were outstanding.

Opening was the Terence Blanchard Quintet with the Monterey Jazz Festival Chamber Orchestra, premiering Blanchard’s A Tale of God’s Will (A Requiem for Katrina).

Next up was the Gerald Wilson Orchestra with special guest Kenny Burrell premiering Wilson’s Monterey Moods.

Closing out the evening was Diana Krall with her all-star band, including Anthony Wilson on guitar, John Clayton on bass, and Jeff Hamilton on drums.

Mort Sahl was a featured MC
